Latest News: Local Non-Profit, S.T.A.R.S. Calling Aspiring Young Artists in the Performing Arts for Inclusion in Program to Develop Nationally Recognized Talent

Columbus, Ohio (March 1, 2019) — S.T.A.R.S., Striving to Achieve Real Success, a local non- profit organization that seeks to assist talented youth in fulfilling successful careers in all aspects of the Music/Recording Industry is holding open auditions for inclusion in their 2019 program. Auditions will be held on three days, March 9, 16, and 23 between the hours of 12:30pm-3:30pm, at the S.T.A.R.S. studios located inside the Word Church of God at 115 Wilson Avenue in Columbus.

Program Audition Requirements:
• Open to singers, dancers, rappers, and beat makers. (Individuals interested in music production and graphic design should contact S.T.A.R.S. directly at 614-419-4624 to arrange an interview.)
• Youth ages 11-22 are accepted into the program
• There is no cost to participate in the program or fee to audition

All performers need to contact S.T.AR.S. in advance to register for the auditions by emailing or contacting Executive Director Chris Powell at 614-419-4624. There is no fee to audition and no resume is required. We do ask that if possible performers bring with them their music and/or instruments. Sound equipment will be available at the studios the day of the audition.

About Executive Director and Founder Chris Powell
Chris Powell is an accomplished American Singer, Songwriter, and Producer. Highlights of Chris Powell’s portfolio include Rick James, Stevie Wonder, Destiny’s Child (Beyonce’ & Kelly Rowland), Paula Abdul, Troop, and Teen Dream. A former member and producer of the group Koko-Pop with Motown Records, Powell began his career in Columbus, Ohio, as a saxophone player and vocalist with a band called the Soul Superbs. Their hit single, Just Ask Me, took them to Los Angeles where they became known as Nytro and signed with the legendary songwriter/producer Norman Whitfield.

Family brought Powell back to Columbus where he shifted his focus to helping aspiring youth find their “voice” and created the non-profit S.T.A.R.S. in 1997. Since then, he has helped many reach national levels including Fatty Koo, Tyshawn Colquitt, Deshawn Goncalves and more.
