Breakaway Music Festival Announces Daily Lineups Much Anticipated Music Festival Returns to Belknap Park, August 27-28

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – June 11, 2021 – Today, MiEntertainment and Prime Social Group released the daily lineups for the much anticipated Breakaway Music Festival, Grand Rapids edition. Single day tickets to the festival go on sale today at 12 p.m. EST. 

The impressive collection of artists range from familiar favorites hailing from Michigan to EDM and pop chart-toppers at this live and in-person festival taking place at Belknap Park August 27-28. 

Set to headline Friday evening is ILLENIUM. The Denver-based producer is one of the most successful crossover electronic artists to date and has elevated dance music with his bold, progressive take on the genre. His expansive sound, which mixes elements of celestial electronic, mellow alternative, rock-fuel dubstep, emotional indie, and pop-tinged bass music, has topped the U.S. charts, garnered more than 4 billion collective streams and solidified the breakout artist as a festival-headlining act. Hailed by Billboard as one of the Top Dance/Electronic Artists, ILLENIUM has captivated millions of self-identified, die-hard “Illenials” around the world who share a direct and personal bond with him through his music. With a string of hits including “Takeaway”, “Good Things Fall Apart”, “Crawl Outta Love”, “In Your Arms” and “Hearts on Fire” fans won’t be disappointed.

FRIDAY

Notable, collaborative, and crossover are three words that describe the artists taking the stage on the first day of Breakaway. The lineup includes ghetto house duo Gettoblaster, Billboard Dance chart topper Frank Walker, electronic producer of Fortnite fame Dion Timmer, one of the fastest-rising dance/electronic artists Big Wild, and Griffyn who’s known for smash-hits like the single “OMG” with Carly Rae Jepsen.

Gettoblaster: Detroiter Paul Anthony and Chicago’s Zach Bletz are known professionally as Gettoblaster. The techno and house production duo have pioneered their own unique style of ghetto house music. 

Frank Walker: Canadian electronic musician and DJ, Frank Walker had gained notoriety for his 2019 single “Only When It Rains“, a collaboration with Astrid S which was also a 2020 Juno Award nominee for Dance Recording of the Year. His 2020 singles “Imagine” with Steve Aoki featuring AJ Mitchell, and “Like Gold” with Loud Luxury featuring Stephen Puth have earned him top spots on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart.

Dion Timmer: Dutch-born electronic producer Dion Timmer started releasing tracks in 2014 and has 30 singles to date. One of his most notable tracks “Shiawase” has gained much popularity by being featured in popular video games Fortnite, Rocket League, Beat Saber, and Roblox. In 2020, Dion released his first full-length album, “Enter Achroma”.

Big Wild: Big Wild is one of the fastest-rising dance/electronic artists in recent years. His 2015 track “Aftergold” topped the Spotify Global Viral Chart upon release. He followed up with his debut EP, “Invincible”, in February 2017 and released his debut album “Superdream” in 2019.

Gryffin: DJ, song writer, and producer Gryffin first gained recognition for his remixes of “Talking Body“, “Animals“, and “Desire” and has consistently topped the music charts. A self-described Melodic House Artist, Gryffin incorporates the sounds of piano and guitar for a unique hybrid organic and electronic sound.  His 2019 release of the album “Gravity” peaked at number one on the U.S. Dance Charts. His single “OMG” with Carly Rae Jepsen hit number one on Billboard’s Dance Club Chart. 

SATURDAY

Day two of the festival brings with it a sundry of sounds and musical styles covering rap, pop, electro, house, and dance.

Headlining is Michigander and singer-songwriter Quinn XCII. Named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s 2020 Breakthrough Artists, Quinn XCII has garnered acclaim for his ability to seamlessly blur the lines between pop, hip-hop, electronic, and soul.  He released his debut album in 2017, The “Story of Us”. The album debuted at #6 on the iTunes Pop Chart and led by the standout single “Straightjacket,” which has accumulated more than 100 million streams to date. He released his sophomore album “From Michigan” With Love in early 2019 and kicked off 2020 with the release of his new single “Two 10s.” Quinn XCII will take the stage for the first time in Grand Rapids since the release of his fourth album “Change of Scenery”. The album, produced with childhood friend and fellow Detroiter, Ayokay, quickly rose to the number one pop album in the world on Apple ITunes upon its release, and is described as a 12-track, 34-minute musical journey. 

Rounding out the bill on Saturday is one of the youngest DJs in the country and Mt. Pleasant’s own Dÿlan (previously known as DJ Dill Pickle), former Detroit Piston and rapper DrummXnd, writer/producer Alexander 23, Grammy nominated EDM artist Elderbrook, Candian EDM duo Loud Luxury, the relatable Chelsea Cutler, and self-described “electro-pop-house-whatever” producer from Nantes, France, Madeon.

Dÿlan: At just 14 years of age, Dÿlan is making a return to Breakaway Music Festival. Formerly known as DJ Dill Pickle, this Mt. Pleasant native is sure to energize the audience with his mixes.

DrummXnd: Drummxnd is the rap name of star NBA basketball player and former Detroit Piston, Andre Drummond. Dre first leaked a song in April 2017 saying it was a “test for his abilities in the rap game.” DrummXnd released his first EP “F.Y.I” in 2018 and quickly followed up in 2019 with the release of his second EP “F.Y.I. 2”

Alexander 23: Writer and producer, Alexander 23 made his debut in 2019 with “Dirty AF1s” and the critically acclaimed debut EP “I’m Sorry I Love You.” He recently teamed up with Selena Gomez to remix her hit song, “Rare”, and released the track “IDK You Yet,” that’s quickly moving up Spotify’s Pop Rising chart.

Elderbrook: Grammy nominated Elderbrook hails from the UK and is known for his versatility as a musician. Elderbrook’s most notable song is his collaboration with CamelPhat, titled “Cola“. The song reached number one on both the Dance Club Songs chart in the United States and Indie Chart in the United Kingdom. It was also nominated for Best Dance song at the 2018 Grammy Awards. 

Loud Luxury: This Canadian duo has taken the EDM industry by storm. Their 2017 debut worldwide smash hit “Body,” was the most played song on dance radio for all of 2018, they sold platinum across the globe, charted in the Top 20 of U.S. Pop Radio and the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart (#4) and accumulated hundreds of millions of plays across the most popular streaming services. It’s follow-up single “Love No More” garnered 12 million streams on Spotify in its first month, and currently sits at an impressive 100 million+ plays on the streaming platform.

Chelsea Cutler: The relatable lyrics and handcrafted lo-fi soundscapes of Chelsea Cutler have established her as a quiet, yet disruptive force in popular music. Within a few short years, the singer, songwriter, and producer went from uploading music from her bedroom to wracking up over 800 million-plus streams with acclaim from the likes of Billboard and Complex. The recent release of her debut album, How to be Human, hit the Top 40 radio charts with the project’s lead single, “Sad Tonight.” 

Madeon: Madeon, is a self-described “electro-pop-house-whatever” producer from Nantes, France. His debut album, “Adventure”, reached number one on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and featured hit singles such as “Pay No Mind”, and “Nonsense”.  The release of his second album “Good Faith” was nominated for a 2021 Grammy Award for Best Electronic Album.

Michigan is the first stop for The Breakaway Music Festival with additional stops set for Columbus, Ohio September 3-4 at the Historic Crew Stadium and Charlotte, North Carolina October 1-2 at the zMAX Dragway located at Charlotte Motor Speedway with each city having its own carefully curated lineups.
