Gilded Social: The Fancy Occasion Shop Announces Dress Donation Initiative

Donations can be made at the shop and will benefit local nonprofit Fairy Goodmothers

Columbus, Ohio—November 13, 2018—Tanya Rutner Hartman philanthropist and owner of the Columbus-based bridesmaid and social occasion dress boutique Gilded Social: The Fancy Occasion Shop answers the age-old question — what to do with the bridesmaid dress after the wedding? Through a partnership with local nonprofit, Fairy Goodmothers, area residents can donate formal dresses onsite at the shop for a cause and receive a special treat of their own.

Donated dresses will be used to outfit Central Ohio High School girls during prom season that may otherwise lack the means to purchase formal attire of their own. As a bonus, those donating dresses at Gilded Social will receive a $25 store credit per donated dress to be used on future purchases at any Gilded Social Sample Sale or from their Backroom, which offers discontinued samples year-round.

“Partnering with Fairy Goodmothers is a win all-around. We offer a chance to trade in a previously used dress for something new and have an impact doing it. Our goal is to make it easy and incentivize women to help outfit girls in on our own community for this milestone event. It’s the perfect way for us to give back,” said Hartman.

While all sizes are appreciated and accepted, there is a particular emphasis and need for dresses size 14 and above. According to Jenna Homan of Fairy Godmothers, “Most of the dresses that have been donated in the past have been sizes 0-12 and we are consistently looking for dresses in sizes 14 and above to properly outfit and hold our annual pop-up event.”

The need for larger sizing coincides nicely with a recent initiative launched by Gilded Social to be more inclusive by offering the most diverse and extensive plus size selection of bridesmaids and special occasion dress samples in Central Ohio. Right now, the shop offers at least two plus

size samples to try on in every line they carry including Hayley Page, Jenny Yoo, Amsale, Dessy Group, Amsale Nouvelle, Adrianna Papell, Joanna August, Katie May, Monique Lhuillier, Theia, Watters, and WToo.

“We believe in outfitting every woman and making her feel comfortable. We want to send a body positive message to the community and encourage women to visit our shop, donate, and feel beautiful,” stated Hartman.

Dresses can be donated onsite starting now at Gilded Social: The Fancy Occasion Shop. The shop is located at 65 East Gay Street, Second Floor in the heart of downtown Columbus, Ohio.
